Homer: But every time I learn something new, it pushes out something old! Remember that time I took a home wine-making course and forgot how to drive?
Marge: That's because you were drunk!
Homer: And how!

UMm I think not Having played both, the game has many occult and Nordic references and the V - Drug is a powerful mind altering drug inducing visions. If you recall in max Payne 1 he is drugged with V and has a "Trip out session" also more mythos is used like Ragnarök and Valhalla the viking end times and heaven or the coming of "Christ" for the vikings / Norse
So max payne is more then ooooh 9mm Barreta pew pew pew Fwoooosh.
Decided to Cross Reference my waffling. So yeah Im usually skeptical about movies like this but to be honest this one might actually be "Spot on".
Max Payne takes place at night during a seemingly endless snowstorm, and contains many references to Ragnarok, the Norse end of the world, during which the world is swallowed by snow and darkness. One of the levels takes place in a night club called Ragna Rock. While inside of Ragna Rock, Max comes across a book entitled The Age of Murder and Storm, which mentions "Norse mythos and Ragnarok". Max himself wears a Sun cross pendant, the symbol of the chief Norse god Odin, known for his prowess in battle.
Many of the characters and objects in the game are named after Norse gods; the drug that forms the basis of the plot is called Valkyr, after the goddesses who brings slain heroes to Valhalla, a name given to another location in the game. Max Payne's partner is named Alex Balder (Baldr), while the Senator Alfred Woden is named after Wōden, the Anglo-Saxon version of Odin. The chief corporate villain in the game is Aesir Corporation (after the Aesir), while the headquarters of the Inner Circle is the Asgard Building. The secret network used by the creators of Valkyr is called Yggdrasil, after the great ash tree believed to support the world.
Mr. Wallcott: Are you sure about that, Agent Cho? Because I can make one phone call and your career is toast. Cho: That's impressive. The best I can get with one call is a pizza.
